Where 100 MB comes from
Unlike the other five, 100 MB is not a platform’s published cap. It is the round number that forms, content management systems, ticketing tools and internal upload dialogs settle on, because it is comfortably above what most attachments need and comfortably below what would cost real storage. Nobody documents it centrally, which is exactly why people arrive here with the number and no context for it.
No platform we track publishes 100 MB as a limit. Every cap in our verified set is listed on the platform pages, and none of them is 100 MB. If something is enforcing it on you, it is a local rule rather than a published one — which is worth knowing before you compress to it.
How long a video fits in 100 MB
The longest clip each resolution can carry inside 100 MB. “Comfortable” means the bitrate clears what that frame size wants; “watchable” means it is soft but holds together. Both columns are arithmetic on the size and the duration; the thresholds they are compared against are recommendations, documented under the table below.
| Resolution | Comfortable up to | Watchable up to | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4K | 40s | 67s | 20,000 kbps |
| 1440p | 90s(2 min) | 146s | 9,000 kbps |
| 1080p | 199s(3 min) | 386s | 4,000 kbps |
| 720p | 353s(6 min) | 669s | 2,200 kbps |
| 480p | 728s(12 min) | 1309s | 1,000 kbps |
| 360p | 1129s(19 min) | 1920s | 600 kbps |
Method: 100 MB spread over the duration, minus 128 kbps of audio and 2% container overhead, then compared against H.264 thresholds derived from published bitrate ladders and reduced by about a third for re-encoded source. A minute inside 100 MB leaves 13573 kbps for video, which is exact. Which resolution that is enough for is a recommendation, not a measurement.
What 100 MB buys at each length
The table above reads by resolution; this one reads by duration. Same arithmetic, the other way round — pick your clip length and see what is left to spend.
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 min | 13,573 kbps | 1440p | Se ve bien |
| 2 min | 6,723 kbps | 1080p | Se ve bien |
| 5 min | 2,612 kbps | 720p | Se ve bien |
| 10 min | 1,242 kbps | 480p | Se ve bien |
| 30 min | 329 kbps | 360p | Visiblemente pobre |
| 1 h | 100 kbps | — | Visiblemente pobre |
What goes wrong at 100 MB
At this size the constraint usually stops being the cap and starts being the download. 100 MB is a few seconds on a desk connection and a visible wait on a phone, and for anything intended to be watched rather than archived that matters more than fitting the limit. This is also the first size where the resolution question reverses: instead of asking how far down you have to go, ask whether you need 1080p at all — a screen recording at 720p inside 100 MB has enough bitrate to look genuinely clean for six minutes.
